Clinical Mentoring – Intro to Clinic
Activity Description: Clinical Mentoring – Intro to Clinic
Date & Time: July 7, 12–1 PM
Location: Timmons Hall
Facilitators: Current D4 students
During this Clinical Mentoring session, we were introduced to the basics of navigating the dental clinic as rising D3s. The event included a concise yet informative presentation that outlined key steps for scheduling and managing our first few patients. We were also guided through essential forms on Axium, the clinic’s electronic health record system, with one-on-one support from current D4 students.
We received a clinic guide that serves as a helpful reference for daily clinical tasks, enhancing our confidence as we transition into patient care. A live demonstration by D4s showed practical workflows and best practices for common procedures and documentation.
Connection to Coursework and Career Goals:
This activity directly supports our clinical coursework by preparing us to apply foundational skills in a real patient-care setting. It bridges the gap between preclinical learning and clinical application, helping us understand how to integrate treatment planning, charting, and patient management—all essential for success in our D3 year and beyond. The mentoring also reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, and efficiency, which are crucial for my future career in dentistry.
