ASDA- Setting the Stage: Smile Analysis and Smile Design
During the presentation sponsored by ASDA with prosthodontist Dr. John Weierbach, it was interesting to see the steps and thought process a practicing prosthodontist uses to help his patients achieve an aesthetic and realistic smile. He explained the importance of analyzing a patient’s smile and facial features, visualizing the end product before starting a smile transformation, and following the natural golden ratio rule of proportions (1:1.618). Dr. Weierbach showed the attendees that many times the “perfect smile” can be “perfectly-imperfect” where a smile would follow a patient’s facial flow rather than aiming for exact symmetry. These methods help to build on what I currently know from classes about prosthodontics and provide me with additional tips to help patients bring their visions for their smiles into reality.
