Two Temple Dental Grads: Wise Owl & an Owlet – Practice Management Insights from an Established Dentist & New Graduate Dentist
- Name of sponsoring organization:Student Affairs & Diversity & Alumni Affairs
- Details of the activity (e.g., where, when): Friday, January 17 at 12-1 in Timmons Hall
- What you learned: I learnt several helpful tips that will come in handy as both a new graduate and practice owner. The importance of getting disability insurance before graduation was emphasized as well as getting credentialed with insurance companies (as a owner). Dr. Ryan mentioned the best way to handle yourself as a ‘new guy’ is through humorous interactions as this gives you a good opportunity to stand your ground and show your confidence without coming off as rude. He stressed not to undersell the value of hygiene checks but rather use it as a chance to meet and get to know the patients. Setting your own schedule in the early months of your career is usually best as it ensures we have too much time than too little.
- How the activity relates to coursework or your career goal: This presentation is applicable to me because I’ll eventually not only hold the title of a new grad but hopefully, a practice owner as well. The advice that both Dr. Ryan Bydalek & Dr. Michael Bydalek gave was highly insightful for both these positions.
