Lunch and Learn with Dr. Rachel Lewin
I attended the lunch and learn hosted by Alpha Omega with Dr. Rachel Lewin on January 15th. I gained a lot from Dr. Lewin’s candid discussion about her journey in dentistry and her biggest and toughest lessons she has learned throughout her journey in dentistry. She emphasized the importance of understanding insurance, identifying and improving the slowest parts of your own procedures, and strategies for handling challenging patients and situations. I really admired and respected Dr. Lewin’s honesty when it came to her offering us a glimpse into the real-world highs and lows of a dentist fresh out of school. Dr. Lewin shared what it was like to navigate different roles in both large-scale and small/private practices. She was transparent about the struggles that you can encounter as well as the different people you could find yourself working under. She really explained the important things to look for in contracts and from practices you are interested in working in so that you can ensure you are getting yourself a job and environment that is best for you. The importance of being the biggest advocate for yourself is something so critical to keep in mind moving forward in our careers.
